The Words With Friends Solo Challenges are a fun way to practice, earn rewards, and play without waiting for others to take their turn.
However, these games can get pretty difficult to win as you move up the opponents.
So for this guide, we will be going over some helpful tips and strategies you can use to overcome these challenges and get those stars.
Pay Attention to the Different Board Setup
Starting off, one of the more difficult aspects of this mode is how different the board is. Instead of the normal 15x15 size, this one is 11x11 making it much smaller. This can make it harder to find a play that won't open up moves to the bonus tiles.
For instance, there are two TW spaces in each corner of the board. This makes it much more tricky to use without opening up the other one in the corner. So, try going for the TW multipliers from the side of the board rather than from the center.
In the example above, the computer played all the way to the edge of the board. This was a perfect setup to go for the TW bonus without opening up the other one in the corner.
Another thing to make note of is that most of the higher scoring bonus tiles are on the outskirts of the board. This is similar to that of the regular board except that you can make use of them easier since it's smaller.
So as you go through the game, try to fill up those corners around the board to really utilize what is available. This is also important because of what's next, limited moves.
Be Cautious Of Your Moves
Because this game mode only gives you five turns, it's important to use longer words if you want to travel around the board and get those bonus tiles. Those moves will go by quickly, so make sure that each one has some sort of score that either matches or is above the computer's last play.
However, this doesn't mean you should disregard all the strategies from regular gameplay. It is still a good tactic to save your blank and S tiles for really high-scoring moves. Just do it while being aware of how many turns you have left.
If you are on your last move, go out with everything you got and try to use any high-scoring letters, wildcards, or bonus spaces you can. But if that is not enough, there is another approach you could take that might just bring you on top.
Fight Fire With Fire
Sometimes with these solo challenges, it can be frustrating that you are essentially playing against an all-knowing dictionary. So one of the best ways you can take on the computer is by also using a computer.
With a screenshot solver tool, you can upload a screenshot of the game board and it will automatically scan it and show you all the highest-scoring words you can play. This ensures that you are making the best play you can and lets you know of all the possible words you could use just like your opponent.
However, even though the biggest-scoring word might look best, it's still important to strategize which word you want to use. Make sure to think about which letters it uses and where it's placed on the board. It's a great way to learn new words while keeping your main focus on tactics.
Plus, you don't have to worry about using the Word Strength meter or wasting Power-Ups you could use for real games.
There are a few different strategies you can use to improve your chances of beating the Words With Friends Solo Challenges. But ultimately, just be aware of the bonus tiles and use them as much as you can.
Make sure to go for big points each turn without neglecting board placements. And finally, use a word-finding tool or screenshot solver to truly compete against the computer when things are tricky.
